Canine Gait & Posture Analysis: A Collaborative Consultation Service for Veterinarians

About Us

My name is Jennifer Phillips. I am currently completing my formal certification in Galen Myotherapy and am a qualified Dynamic Dog Practitioner. I provide a comprehensive 100% remote gait and posture review service for veterinarians. My approach is uniquely informed by my training in identifying muscular imbalances and compensatory patterns that are often the root cause of both physical and behavioral issues.

This service is especially useful for investigating subtle lameness or for exploring potential physical causes of behavior issues. As landmark research by Prof. Daniel Mills suggests, up to 82% of dogs presenting with behavioral problems may be suffering from undiagnosed pain or discomfort.

How this Benefits the Veterinary Practice

  • Myotherapy-Informed Analysis: My observations are grounded in the principles of Galen Myotherapy and Dynamic Dog, focusing on the specific muscular and fascial patterns that indicate chronic pain, discomfort or underlying pathology.
  • Uncover Pain in Behavior Cases: With research suggesting a strong link between behavior issues and undiagnosed pain/discomfort (Mills et al.), my analysis provides a crucial tool to investigate physical causes for changes in temperament or anxiety.
  • Detailed History Compilation:  I save the veterinary staff significant time by performing an in-depth, 90-minute information-gathering session with the owner to gather crucial details and nuance about the dog's lifestyle, activities, and behavior.
  • Clarify the Clinical Picture: Provide clear, visual evidence of subtle lameness or compensatory patterns to complement your hands-on exam and diagnostics.
  • Establish an Objective Baseline: Create a comprehensive record—integrating history, records, and movement—to better track progress.
  • Enhance Client Communication: Use clear video and photographic evidence and a thorough report to help clients understand your findings and the importance of the recommended treatment plan.

Our Comprehensive Consultation Process

  1. Case Referral & Records Review: You refer a case and provide access to the patient's relevant medical records. I begin by conducting a thorough review of the file.
  2. In-Depth Owner History: I schedule and conduct a 90-minute online session with the pet owner to gather a detailed history of the presenting complaint, lifestyle, and subtle signs observed at home. In addition, I delve into any behavior issues the dog may present, past and current that may relate to underlying discomfort.
  3. Video and Photo Capture: The owner provides short video clips of the dog's movement and daily activities based on my simple, easy-to-follow capture protocol.  In addition, the owner provides a series of static photos to better observe any abnormalities, weight shifting, and/or compensation.
  4. Integrated Analysis & Report: I analyze the video and photographic evidence in the context of the full medical and owner history, delivering a single, comprehensive report directly to your inbox.
